Porcelain Veneers Can Create a Flawless Smile

Placing a porcelain veneer

Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells cemented onto the front surface of a tooth to dramatically improve aesthetics. Dr. Benjamin D. Ahlbrecht is meticulous in his craft, and will carefully design and place your porcelain veneers at our Indianapolis, IN, office for beautiful, lifelike results. This customized cosmetic treatment can conceal minor imperfections to create a whiter, straighter, more symmetrical smile. The procedure can often benefit patients unhappy with multiple cosmetic aspects of their smiles. Dr. Ahlbrecht will note your goals and assess the health of your smile to determine if veneers are right for you.

What Can Veneers Provide?

Porcelain veneers can address imperfections affecting one or more teeth to create a beautiful smile. These imperfections may include:

  • Discoloration that cannot be addressed with teeth whitening treatments
  • Minor damage such as chips or cracks
  • Wide gaps between teeth
  • Slight crookedness
  • Eroded or otherwise misshapen teeth

By addressing multiple imperfections with a single cosmetic treatment, Dr. Ahlbrecht can help you achieve a flawless smile.

This customized cosmetic treatment can conceal minor imperfections to create a whiter, straighter, more symmetrical smile.

Designing and Placing Your Custom Veneers

During your cosmetic consultation with Dr. Ahlbrecht, he will perform a thorough evaluation of your oral health to ensure that you are a candidate for porcelain veneers. He will also discuss your cosmetic goals. In some cases, patients can benefit from undergoing teeth whitening before receiving one or more veneers for a dramatic overall enhancement. If porcelain veneers are not a good cosmetic solution for you, he may recommend an alternative option, such as dental bonding. If you are suffering from any oral health issues, such as cavities or gum disease, he must address those before he can proceed with any cosmetic treatment.

Smile Design

Once Dr. Ahlbrecht has decided porcelain veneers are a good fit for you, he will begin designing your smile. Together you can select the right size, shape, and color of veneers to meet your needs. In most cases, Dr. Ahlbrecht must remove some tooth enamel in order to avoid making the results look bulky. He focuses on conserving as much of your enamel as possible with minimal alteration of the tooth. Once the preparation of your teeth is complete, Dr. Ahlbrecht will take impressions. We will send these impressions, along with the design specifications, to our partner dental laboratory, where technicians will create your custom veneers.

Placement Process

When we receive your porcelain veneers back from the lab, you can return to have them placed. Dr. Ahlbrecht will begin by checking the fit to make certain you both are satisfied with the results. If there are any issues with the veneers, he will send them back to the lab for corrections before proceeding. However, minor adjustments can usually be made in the office. Once you are satisfied with the look and fit of the veneers, Dr. Ahlbrecht will prepare your teeth. He will apply an acidic gel to the surface of your teeth. This creates microscopic pores for a stronger bonding surface. He will then apply the dental cement to the back of the veneers before firmly pressing them onto the teeth.

Are Porcelain Veneers Right for You?

The best way to find out if porcelain veneers are a good option for you is to contact our office and schedule your consultation with Dr. Ahlbrecht. Based on the health of your smile and the results you hope to achieve, he can determine if veneers or another cosmetic dentistry treatment is the right one for you.
