Stained or discolored teeth can be embarrassing and even make you look older than you actually are.
At our Indianapolis office, we offer teeth whitening to remove stains and create a brighter, more beautiful smile.

But over-the-counter whitening is cheaper...
Professional Teeth Whitening Is Safer and More Effective
While over-the-counter options tend to cost less, they cannot offer the same quality of results as a professional treatment. Dr. Ahlbrecht has access to stronger materials that he can administer without causing unpleasant side effects.
A professional treatment at our Indianapolis office can provide dramatic effects in a single visit. Store-bought products are much weaker and will likely take several weeks to show any results.

Brighten Your Smile with Professional Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening provided at our Indianapolis, IN, practice eliminates dental discoloration to help you achieve a more attractive smile. Dr. Benjamin D. Ahlbrecht provides fast in-office treatments as well as custom take-home kits that can allow you to whiten your teeth at your convenience. Whitening can provide a powerful smile enhancement alone or in combination with other cosmetic procedures such as porcelain veneers. If dental stains are affecting your confidence, Dr. Ahlbrecht can illuminate your smile.
While there are a number of teeth whitening products available in drug stores, none are as effective—or safe—as professional whitening.
How Teeth Become Stained
In spite of daily brushing and flossing, many of us experience extrinsic dental stains, or stains that occur on the outer surface of the teeth. These can be caused by genetics and certain medications, but most often, dental stains are the result of drinking beverages such as coffee, tea, and red wine, and eating foods such as berries, mustard, and tomato sauce.
Meanwhile, some dental stains are extrinsic, meaning they occur on the inner surface of a tooth. These stains are often the result of procedures such as root canal therapy. Intrinsic stains do not usually respond to teeth whitening, but can be concealed with solutions such as dental crowns or veneers.
Why Choose Professional Whitening?
While there are a number of teeth whitening products available in drug stores, such as whitening toothpaste, strips, and mouth rinses, none are as effective—or safe—as professional whitening. Many of these products simply do not provide satisfactory results, and others can cause allergic reactions, tooth sensitivity, and other effects that a doctor can easily help you avoid.
Dr. Ahlbrecht’s Whitening Methods
Dr. Ahlbrecht offers two convenient teeth whitening methods to meet our patients’ needs. Both in-office and take-home whitening allow Dr. Ahlbrecht to carefully monitor your results so there is no risk of over-whitening or causing dental sensitivity. Prior to treatment, he will carefully assess your oral health and your cosmetic goals. If your teeth and gums are healthy, you and Dr. Ahlbrecht can begin planning your treatment.
In-office Teeth Whitening
Our in-office teeth whitening uses prescription-strength bleaching gel and a laser for fast results. Once you have selected the shade you wish to achieve, we will clean your teeth before Dr. Ahlbrecht begins the whitening process. This eliminates bacteria and other particles that might interfere with the whitening gel. He will then place a barrier between your teeth and gums to prevent irritation.
Once the barrier is in place, he will apply the bleaching gel to your teeth. A laser is used to activate the gel and expedite the whitening process. He may repeat this process several times during your appointment to achieve your desired results.
If you choose take-home whitening, Dr. Ahlbrecht will provide you with custom whitening trays and prescription-strength whitening gel. These trays will fit precisely over your teeth. At home, you will insert the gel into the whitening trays, then place the trays over your teeth. Depending on the current shade of your teeth, you will wear these trays for 15 minutes to an hour each day for about two weeks.
Maintaining Lasting Results
Teeth whitening is not permanent. You must take appropriate steps to preserve your newly whitened smile. Dr. Ahlbrecht will provide you with detailed instructions to help you maintain your results, which may include avoiding certain foods and beverages and using a take-home whitening kit periodically. He can provide touch-up treatments as needed to help keep your smile bright.
